Hello, you've reached Hiyoko. Or Mielikki, I guess. And not really because I'm obviously out conquering the many challenges that lay before me.

So leave a message!

History: Here! | Also here.

Hatoful Boyfriend is a dating sim, which means a lot of routes and different choices so it can be a little tough to iron them out into a cohesive timeline. Also I'm using the sequel game which helpfully tosses out and replaces everything that happens from Christmas onwards. And the wiki is a little sparse. It does have some pretty good summaries of the basic setting and Hiyoko's pre game life though, which can be found in the links above. The rest I'll try to summarize below. I swear I kept this as short as I could.

In April 2188, Hiyoko started her second year at St. Pigeonation's. She was once again classmates with her childhood friend, Ryouta. The pudding obsessed track team captain and a stuck up new transfer student from France were also in their class. Their teacher is a famous mathematician who falls asleep a lot and clearly has no dark secrets whatsoever. (Not that she knows, anyway.) The school doctor is even more famous, but let's face it, he's clearly evil no matter how dumb you are. Also, it turns out the transfer student is related to the resident playboy upperclassman. When it comes time to pick out a club, she joins the library staff, meeting a lonely mourning dove who she suspects is being bullied.

Anyway, after a few months of normal school type adventures such as class hikes, sports festivals, and cafeteria fights, we come to Tanabata. Hiyoko whimsically wishes for the 'mad love of a fallen angel' which brings a delusional bleeding heart dove crashing into her life. Literally. He seems to be obsessed with the doctor's evil plot, but Hiyoko is able to keep him from getting himself killed.

While on a run, she meets a tough talking takoyaki selling sparrow who gives her a very safe ride home. Over the summer break, Hiyoko gets a job at a local cafe and through a series of strange coincidences manages to get said sparrow back together with her old boyfriend. Hiyoko is a busy girl. The summer ends with a small festival. Yay. Back to school. Her relatively normal school life continues until Christmas, which is where we break off from main game canon into Holiday Star. Huzzah!

The Christmas Thieves Attack-

At Christmas time their city is under attack from the 'legendary Christmas thieves.' A group of criminals that steal decorated trees from prominent places around town. This would normally be left up to the authorities, but the Torimi cafe where Hiyoko worked over the summer (and where Ryouta currently works)is one of the first victims. Clearly it's time for these two crack detectives to get on the case!

First stop, a local department store that's famous for it's holiday decorations has been hit by the thieves. They're not actually that bothered by it though, and intend to replace the missing trees with even better ones. As they're investigating the store, two strange creature resembling doves with human arms crash through a window and proceed to run around making a huge mess of all the decorations. All while yelling 'Merry Christmas' repeatedly. Eventually they are removed by one of the guards and the two brilliant investigators are off in search of new leads.

The owner of the Torimi cafe has one- a blurry photo of the thieves! Who look like small creatures resembling doves with human arms. Hiyoko thinks they might look familiar...

Yeah, they don't make the connection until much later. Detectives these two are not. Anywho, questioning birds on the street yields nothing so it's back to school. The tree in the student council room is the next target. But Sakuya has invested in such high tech security that the only way the thieves can breach it is with explosives. The tree is destroyed in the attempt. The culprits do leave a very sincere apology note though. Written in crayon and misspelled. Clearly they are dealing with criminal masterminds.

Our heroes decide the best way to catch the thieves is by luring them into trap. The convince Sakuya to offer up the extremely fancy Christmas tree in his home as bait. They'll advertise that the Le Bel mansion is open for the public to view their decorations and grab the thieves when they make their move. Unfortunately their move is made with a tank. Hiyoko does try punching it, but to no avail. The school's resident secret agent playboy shows up with an anti-tank gun. Unfortunately that also proves ineffective. Eventually they are rescued by Dr. Iwamine who uses a specially made grenade that will release a gas designed specifically to neutralize the thieves.

It turns out that the two little creatures, Miru and Kaku, were created accidentally in the lab where the doctor used to work. They had been slated for destruction, but the doctor's mentor decided to look after them. Their obsession with Christmas comes from him. In the end, Dr. Iwamine decides to look after them. Hiyoko is understandably suspicious of his motives, but as it turns out he actually treats them fairly well. They even bring a little Christmas cheer to the infirmary. It's a Christmas miracle.

Fallen Chronicles: Absolute Zero-

There's a pretty good summary of this chapter on the wiki here. So I'll just pick up from where they left off.

Suspicious of Anghel's declining health, Hiyoko decides to follow him to his next meeting with Nishikikouji. Naturally she catches the golden pheasant in the act of draining Anghel's blood for some nefarious purpose. She kicks the door in and rescues Anghel, but the villain escapes. It turns out that he intends to use the reality warping powers of Anghel's blood to power a super weapon and destroy their school. All to get revenge on the school doctor, who isn't even there. Brilliant.

Obviously the only way to stop him and save the school is to use those same reality warping powers to turn Hiyoko, Ryouta, and their teacher into Pretty Coores. Then they can use their magical powers to protect everyone. Which works. No, really. Not long after that, Hiyoko and all of her friends make plans to view a lunar eclipse on the roof of the school. But she's getting pulled into the Far Shore instead. (Which actually isn't terribly far from what would've happened anyway.)

Personality:

Being the sole human in one of the most prestigious schools for birds might seem a little lonely, but Hiyoko takes it in stride. Cheerful and friendly, she often goes out of her way to befriend classmates and teachers. And she's pretty good at worming her way into their hearts. Whether it's arrogant student council presidents, standoffish library ghosts, or delusional fallen angels, she's able to find ways to connect with them all. Mostly with an oddly uncanny sense of empathy. Hiyoko seems to know just when to play along with Anghel's insanity or to scold Yuuya for his 'loose talk.'

She's a creature of simple tastes and pleasures. She calls calorie mate the ambrosia of the gods, and when asked what she loves, her immediate response is 'udon.' She's lived without electricity or heat in her home for years and it scarcely bothers her. Hobby-wise, Hiyoko especially enjoys the runners high that comes with long jogs around the city. And the rest of her spare time usually goes to things like local festivals and the nearby arcade.

A nice way to describe her might be 'unique,' but it would be more accurate to say that she's just plain weird. While most people would be happy passing exams or being healthy, her wishes on tanabata include ruling the world from the shadows or conquering it by force. Or even the mad love of a fallen angel. And depending on bird she's pursuing, Hiyoko is as likely to be found helping out the student council as joining the track team captain in a bean eating frenzy. And speaking of the track team captain, Hiyoko barely bats an eye when he invites her on a quest for 'true pudding.' Then again, she's equally okay with fighting the school doctor in an rpg style boss battle.

And for someone with as low a wisdom stat as she has, this cave girl's vocabulary is actually pretty well developed. She refers to her cave as her 'glorious abode.' And when the new transfer student refuses to introduce himself, Hiyoko warns the teacher not to let him get away with it. After all, 'the system will collapse and we'll all turn into kulaks and dissenters!' Not only oddly erudite, her responses to simple requests often get a dramatic flair added to them. Hiyoko is asked to handle the reception desk at the school festival and she boldly declares "I shall mete out information and directions like an Oni of old, cleaver in hand, seated atop a throne wrought from the skulls of my foes!" Sure. You do that.

Considering the difficulties she's faced after being orphaned in a terrorist incident, Hiyoko is surprisingly well adjusted. She's not the type to dwell on the past, instead focusing on here and now. And living alone in a cave has led her to be very independent. She has to catch her own breakfast in the morning and defend her home from wild animals. Both tasks that she treats as simple household chores. Sweep the floor, do your homework, build a fire, fight some jackals... it's all the same to her. Also generally eager to help out her friends, when she accepts a task, Hiyoko will never give it anything less than her best. Whether it's cleaning duty, her part time job, or taking over a booth at the school festival, she'll approach the task with enthusiasm.

Hiyoko is a woman of action, which is to say that she doesn't spend a whole lot of time thinking things through. Even when she knows Nishikikouji has some nefarious plan for Anghel she recklessly kicks the door in for a dramatic rescue without even considering contacting the authorities. Or her other friends for that matter. She's also a little quick to solve problems with violence, and her go to method for resolving arguments between her classmates is to throw one or both of the offenders out a window. Literally. (It's fine, they can fly.) She's also far too curious for her own good. Despite the looming danger of bombs and guns, she investigates the Christmas thieves case without reservation. And even though her instincts are more than good enough to tell when people like the doctor or Yuuya are suspicious she still pokes her nose into their business. And yes, curiosity does sometimes kill the Hiyoko.

Abilities:

Hiyoko is a normal human, and has no supernatural powers. That said, she has been living as a hunter gatherer for years now and is quite skilled in all aspects of wilderness survival. This lifestyle has also helped hone her natural instincts which she relies on to warn her of danger. She's a also a pretty decent fighter.(She once beat the leader of a jackal tribe and was welcomed into the pack as a brother. Don't ask.) On top of that she has amazing stamina, and is able to run for hours on end.

Strengths: Pro active, decisive, brave, optimistic, sharp instincts
Weaknesses: Stubborn, impatient, impulsive, not too bright, eccentric

God/Shinki: God
Why?: Hiyoko has a very forceful, proactive personality that easily makes an impression on those around her. This is a girl with good forward momentum who makes decisions quickly and I think those are all traits that will help her as a god. Or at least make it funny for me.
Top 3 Choices: Mielikki | Flidais | Pakhet
God Type: Hiyoko will at least try to uphold the values of her previous incarnation, but she'll probably interpret those values differently. She'll be willing to take on most prayers with gusto, but again her eccentric way of thinking will probably lead to some unusual solutions to people's problems. So her poor shinki will likely be dragged around on all sorts of weird errands. She means well, honestly...
Power: The ability to speak to and command animals. Obviously the command part would only apply to normal, mundane animals and not to characters with animal forms, summoned critters, mythological beasts etc. (For example a random alley cat would be fine, but it wouldn't work on a witch's familiar.)
